For flights from May 28 to August 18, Frontier said he would include a free checkered bag.

The change occurs a week after Southwest shocked customers announcing, from May 28, he will get rid of his longtime policy to allow customers to check two bags for free. Southwest was an aberrant value with this policy among the airlines, and the leaders had repeatedly said that they had not planned to change it.

Southwest, whose original airport is Dallas Love Field, has a motif of love and clashes as part of its brand and its stock ticker is LUV. “Some airlines are moving away from what travelers love, but we run there. Consider this as the ultimate of the old divorce company. If travelers show us love, we will make these advantages permanent.”

Last week, the leaders of United, Delta and Spirit said that Southwest’s policy changes could be good for their carriers. Airlines are also struggling with a recent drop in domestic travel demand that has weighed on first quarter estimates.
