Rubio accuses China of the “reverse” opium war via fentanyl

Washington – American Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested that Beijing could be “deliberately” flooded in America with the synthetic fentanyl opioid, in a “opposite” form of opium wars in the mid -1800s which infiltrated the international position of China.

US officials blame the fentanyl for having ravaged communities and having been killed by overdose tens of thousands of Americans a year. Mexican transnational criminal gangs provide precursors for China fentanyl, then passing drugs in the United States, officials.

In an interview with the State Department with the host of Fox News Brian Kilmead on Wednesday, Rubio said that he thought that China “could stop in a second” The outings of precursors, but that we had chosen not to disturb.

“They could stop it if they wanted it. You must ask yourself in some cases, is this a deliberate thing, as they flood us with fentanyl? Rubio declared, which has encouraged Kilmead to establish a link with the opium wars, which opposed China to British opium traders.

“In the opposite direction, on the right,” replied Rubio. “And do they do this on purpose?” You have to ask yourself. I mean, I just say.

The waves of opium of 1839-1842 and 1856-1860 saw China, which struggled against the rise of opium dependencies, trying to divert the British and French colonial navies, who fought to force the country to continue to buy opium and other goods to merchants.

Chinese officials have blamed opium dependence for a deterioration in social stability – just as the American official blames fentanyl for crime – and had tried to ban drugs.

But their loss in wars resulted in the “unequal treaties” who forced China to legalize opium and renounce the control of Hong Kong. Who inaugurated “The century of humiliation“In China, which continues to influence Beijing’s perspective on the world to date.

I can’t prove it

Asked by Kilmeade in his interview on Wednesday if he “wonders” or “knows” that China deliberately allows fentanyl in America, Rubio admitted that he had no evidence.

“Well, we cannot prove that they do it on purpose, but my boy, it looks like. This is really the case, “said Rubio, explaining that Chinese diplomats were ready to offer repressions of fentanyl during talks.

“They know these guys work and they don’t do it [stop them]And I think they also hold it on our head, right? He said. “They say, well, we will help you with that if you don’t put any prices.”

President Donald Trump this month imposed a 10% rate on Chinese imports in retaliation for what he said was the refusal of Beijing to stop the flow of precursors. Trump warned on Thursday that he would increase this rate another 10% March 4.

Fentanyl played an important role in diplomacy between the United States and China in the last American administration, with the president of the time, Joe Biden and Chinese president Xi Jinping, discussing the issue during their high-level talks in San Francisco in November 2023.

A XI engagement that China would work harder to stem the outings of fentanyl precursors was one of the Three main offers To get out of the summit – alongside a restoration of military talks to military and cooperation on the regulation of artificial intelligence.

But Trump says that China did not do enough to make the commitment of XI.

Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, Rubio’s claims were “foundation suspicions and smear” said on Thursday. Fentanyl’s offer in America was in fact “disturbed” by Chinese aid, he said.

The Chinese authorities had “cleaned and corrected 14 online platforms, canceled more than 330 corporate accounts, closed more than 1,000 online stores, withdrawn more than 152,000 online advertisements and made regular online patrols” as part of a repression, said Liu.

“China-US Founternarchates cooperation has obtained remarkable results, which is obvious to everyone,” he added. “Reducing the domestic demand for drugs and strengthening cooperation in law enforcement are the fundamental solutions to the fentanyl crisis in the United States.”
