Republicans in Texas and increasingly across the country have been very clear about who they don’t want to see win Texas’ Democratic U.S. Senate primary. State Rep. James Talarico is the candidate they fear more than Rep. Jasmine Crockett in a general election.
Trump and his party have spent years attacking and demonizing Rep. Crockett, who will have a bright future in politics regardless of the outcome of the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Texas.
Crockett ran in the Senate primary and does not have a well-established campaign organization. Crockett’s campaign plan is to attract new voters to the polls. However, in a state like Texas, where Republicans have spent decades suppressing the vote, attracting new voters to the process is probably easier said than done.
Trump’s FCC issued guidelines that all daytime and late-night talk shows must give equal time to political candidates, which, as Colbert explained on his show, meant CBS told him his interview with Talarico couldn’t be aired.

Colbert said that Talarico:
was supposed to be there, but our network’s lawyers, who called us directly, told us in no uncertain terms that we couldn’t have him on the show. Then I was told in uncertain terms that not only could I not have it, but I couldn’t mention that I didn’t have it. And because my network clearly doesn’t want us to talk about this, let’s talk about it.

Efforts to silence Talarico backfired on CBS, the Trump administration and the Republican Party in massive ways.
