Representative Jamie Raskin opened an investigation into how Donald Trump is forgiven with a letter to Trump's Doj's lawyer Ed Martin.

Raskin wrote to Martin:
I write to ask you to explain the criteria and the process you now use as a forgiveness for the United States to recommend individuals for presidential pardon.
As you are undoubtedly aware, the mission of the Bureau of the Advocate Pardon is to “support the second chance by the leniency” by examining all the requests of the convicted offenders and by making recommendations to the president who are consistent, impartial and respected the “interests of justice”.
Alas, at least it appears that you use the lawyer's office to make forgives as favors to the faithful political followers of the president and to the most generous donors, ignoring and completely abandoning the thousands of individual requests for leniency.
These Americans depend on your office for an equitable shot to a second chance in a process that has real integrity. The signs are disturbing. During your short term as an American interim lawyer for the Columbia district, you described yourself and the career prosecutors as “the president Trumps” [sic] Lawyers. “You used your office to place the allies of the president who are guilty of political violence and other crimes above the law and to target his imagined enemies, thus endangering public security in the capital of our country.
