Hakeem Jeffries exploded Greg Abbott for delaying the Special Texas elections

Representative Sylvester Turner (D-TX) unexpectedly died on March 5, 2025. Instead of holding the special elections in a timely manner, Governor Abbott published a proclamation indicating that the election would take place on November 4, 2025.

Abbott will refuse voters of the district of the Houston region strongly a democrat for almost eight months.

Hakeem Jeffries let Abbott have it:

Governor Abbott openly conspires with the Republicans of the Chamber to compel the system and deprive the rights of hundreds of thousands of residents of the county of Harris.

The Honorable Sylvester Turner died tragically on March 5, 2025, and the governor intentionally delayed the appeal of a special election for almost five weeks – or three more than he did historically – in order to avoid having to hold the special elections in May.

The republicans of the Chamber know that their billionaire agenda is entirely out of step with the American people. This is why they do everything they can to recover their thin majority like a razor in order to implement the largest Medicaid cup in American history.

The Democrats of the Chamber remain determined to give a voice to the people of the TX-18 and we actively explore legal options to force Governor Abbott and his republican co-conspirators of the Chamber to do the right thing.

Jeffries was correct. Abbott won by calling the special elections because he wanted Trump and Johnson to have a little more space to bring their tax discounts for the rich.

There is no practical reason to delay the special elections.

The republican program is unpopular and the version of the Senate of the budget bill could crash and burn in the House this week. If this happens, the Republicans already warn that they could come up against the deadline to increase the limit of the debt.

The attitude of the GOP is which cares about democratic representation when the rich need a tax reduction.

We hope that Jeffries will continue Abbott so that the people can choose a new representative before November.

Let’s talk about this story in the comments below.
