First, Stephen Colbert, And now Jimmy Kimmel. There is a clear model at work here.
ABC announced that the late evening Jimmy Kimmel has been suspended and that his program was withdrawn from the air, all because Kimmel made a remark on his program on Monday.
Kimmel said: “We hit new stockings during the weekend with the Gang Maga trying desperately to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as something other than one of them and do everything they can to score political points.”
The president of the FCC, Brendon Carr, made a right podcast and threatened ABC saying:
It seems to be an action by Jimmy Kimmel to play in the story that it was sort of a maga or republican person. What people do not understand is that the broadcasters … have a license granted by us to the FCC, and this is accompanied by an obligation to operate in the public interest. When we see things like this, look, we can do it the simplest way or the road to the hard. These companies can find ways to change driving, on Kimmel, or there will be additional work for the FCC to come.
ABC affiliates announced that they would replace Kimmel’s program after the Carr threat, and the network replied by announcing that Kimmel was indefinitely suspended. »»
Don’t be mistaken about what’s going on here. The Trump administration uses its power to get rid of voices on broadcast television that calls into question or criticism.
After the cancellation of Stephen Colbert, Trump posted: “The next step will be an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel.”
Trump is angry with Kimmel for jokes about him for years. Trump is still angry that Kimmel humiliated him during the Oscars.
The wider implications here concern freedom of expression, and the Trump administration sending a message to the disseminated media according to which any criticism will be punished.
The first amendment is in fact in the United States, and corporate media help Trump steal your rights.
