The expansion team of the WNBA of Portland unveiled its new brand and its name on Tuesday – The Portland Fire – Ravidage from the previous team of the city of the city which played from 2000 to 2002.
The new logo presents a rose on fire, a reference to the nickname of Portland as “Rose City”, merged with “the relentless intensity of the flame”, according to a press release from the WNBA. The colors of the team are red, brown, blue and pink.
“As a city that has long defended female sports, Portland is ready to recover its place in the WNBA and rekindle its link with the game on the world scene,” said Clare Hamill, interim president of Portland Fire, in a statement.
“We are delighted to finish the trip to bring back professional women’s basketball to the city of Rose, while honoring the legacy of the original franchise to open a new bold path,” said Hamill.
The new brand includes several lead nods in the city and the region, according to the WNBA, including the 12 bridges that connect the city from east to west, the curved roof line of the original arena of the team, the Moda Center and the Mount Hood silhouette, the highest point in Oregon.
The revival comes as the team has exceeded an important step of 10,000 season ticket deposits, setting fire to a rate to exceed the WNBA seasonal deposits of the WNBA, said the League.
The Portland team became the 15th WNBA franchise when it was announced in September. This is part of an expansion of WNBA and the Boom of Female Sports overall in recent years. In June, the WNBA announced the addition of three new teams in Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia, bringing the total number of teams to 18 by 2030.

Portland fire will rise in 2026 at Moda Center in downtown Portland, WNBA said. This arena also houses the Portland Trailblazers of the NBA.
The team will train with the Portland Thorns FC team, also owned by Raj Sports, in a next double sport female performance center.
