Trump did a lot of things during his second administration to drive a wedge into his political base. Trump opposed conservative economic policy with an illegal tariff scheme that the Supreme Court later abandoned. The president has attacked Second Amendment rights by defending ICE for shooting and killing gun owner Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, but nothing has divided Trump’s base like his decision to start a war with Iran.

If there was one thing Trump supporters could count on over the past decade, it was that Donald Trump would not drag the United States into foreign wars.
Until 2026, when Trump embarked on a worldwide military frenzy that reached a new level with the war against Iran.
The director of Trump’s National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, is linked to far-right groups and appears to be a true MAGA supporter. That’s why Kent’s abrupt resignation over the Iran war was such a shocking experience for MAGA.
Had Kent resigned quietly, eyebrows would have been raised, but he issued a statement debunking the administration’s claims about Iran.
Kent posted on X:
After careful consideration, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective immediately.
I cannot, in good conscience, support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war under pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.
It has been an honor to serve under POTUS and DNIGabbard and lead the professionals at NCTC.
God bless America.
Kent told the truth. Israel pressured Trump to fight this war, and Trump’s reaction was as expected.
