TSA lines at airports have reached crisis mode, causing Trump and the Republicans to cave in and do what Democrats have been proposing for six weeks.
There is still no funding for ICE and the Border Patrol, where House and Senate Democrats are calling for reforms.
Senate Democrats proposed, through votes, to defund the TSA at least ten times, and Republicans refused, as they demanded Democrats support funding for ICE and Border Patrol.
For reasons of public safety, after the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota, the Democrats refused.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said after the Democratic proposal passed the Senate:
In the wake of the murders of Renée Good and Alex Pretti, Senate Democrats have been clear: no blank check for lawless ICE and Border Patrol.
This long-awaited deal funds TSA, Coast Guard, FEMA, CISA; strengthens security at the border and points of entry; and keeps Americans safe. This could have been accomplished weeks ago if Republicans had not opposed it.
Democrats have stood firm in their opposition that Donald Trump’s criminal and murderous militia should not get more funding without serious reforms, and we will continue to fight for those reforms.
Some in the mainstream press have said that there are no winners in the TSA standoff, but that is a very generous and sympathetic view of the seriousness of the situation. the party that controls the House, Senate and White House has ruined this entire situation.
